Alan Thicke was at Pickwick Gardens in Burbank, California, playing ice hockey with his son Carter on December 13, 2016, when he suddenly passed out. According to the rink manager, the legendary entertainer was still conscious enough that he could prank his son to film him being led out on a stretcher. Confirmation of Alan’s death at Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center in Burbank, at the age of 69, revealed that the cause of death was type A aortic dissection.

His burial took place at the Santa Barbara Cemetery in Santa Barbara, California on December 19, 2016. It was a good occasion for the cast members of Growing Pains to reunite. His friend, Bob Saget, gave him a eulogy as his son, Robin, told him a humorous story in remembrance of the iconic actor.
